QuickBooks Online Foundations

This course explores practical navigation through QuickBooks Online Plus using a multimedia/practical demo of the system.

During this three hour workshop, you will learn how QuickBooks Online can benefit your business, which product level is best for you and how to set up your company and chart of accounts.

You will also learn how to navigate the QuickBooks system, including:

    • Integrating bank feeds
    • Performing bank reconciliations
    • Managing users
    • Creating custom forms
    • Entering sales and expense transactions
    • Producing standard reports
    • Managing product inventory and services, payroll, projects,
    • Producing reports

Finally, you will learn how to work with your accountant or bookkeeper from within the system, and more!

Pre-requisite: Using QuickBooks Online in your business for at least one month is recommended. If you are considering QuickBooks Online for your business, you may also participate. It will help you decide, and you can do the exercises in the test company.

Deliverable: Following the course, you will receive a 140-page PDF student reference manual mirroring the topics covered.

Required equipment: Laptop computer (Windows or Mac with the minimum operating system requirements*).  A mobile device is not sufficient for this class. However, if you wish, you can have the Zoom meeting on a mobile device and the QuickBooks Online test company on a computer with a Chrome browser.

WiFi:  If you do not have reliable internet, please email: events@cvsbdc and we will share a location in your area where you can participate without interruption. Seating is limited to 2-4, depending on location for social distancing safety. Masks will be required.

PLEASE NOTE: QuickBooks Desktop will not be covered in this course.

*Computer requirements:

    • Windows PC:  Windows 7 or newer, Intel Core i5 or comparable AMD processor with at least 4 GB of RAM
    • Mac:  OS X 10.9 or newer
    • Internet connection:  5 Mbps or higher
    • Internet browser:  Google Chrome is recommended for optimal operation

Instructor:  Ellen Martin, Founder and Principal, Octavo LLC and Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor–Online Advanced.

Ellen has a BS in Business Management and MS in Nonprofit Management and Philanthropy. Her background meshes multi-faceted for-profit and not-for-profit business experience. She employs holistic and strategic thinking to advance organizational missions. Her 25-year career has encompassed private sector, higher education, voluntary sector, start-up, and entrepreneurial pursuits.

Octavo LLC is a woman-owned consulting business based in Charlottesville, Virginia; though the business’s service range extends far beyond central Virginia. The company serves both not-for-profit and for-profit entities. Octavo identifies and addresses—through best practices—points of stagnation, gaps in infrastructure, and strategic and operational inefficiencies as represented in a company’s books. The company offers QuickBooks Online bookkeeping transition, setup, and cleanup, and ongoing bookkeeping and payroll services.
