What We Do
We provide strategic, professional resources to small businesses in Central Virginia through:
- confidential, one-on-one business guidance
- access to custom market and data analysis
- workshops and training, such as: succeeding online, cyber security, government contracting, equity capital preparation, start-up, bookkeeping and more
How We Do It
Supported by the SBA and regional partners, the Central Virginia SBDC supports job growth and economic development by providing area businesses with curated information; professional, one-on-one management counseling; and regular training opportunities addressing the needs of businesses in Central Virginia. The CV SBDC also assists pre-venture and existing businesses in developing business plans and pitch decks through experienced feedback, market analysis, financial projections, and guidance through key business success considerations with guidance through capital options.
Who We Are
Our staff, which currently includes 8 business advisors and two operations staff, is spread across Central Virginia. We also have a deep network of professional experts experienced in a variety of fields too long to list. Our main office, located in Charlottesville, Virginia, hosted by Community Investment Collaborative at 300 Preston Avenue, is home-base. The Central Virginia SBDC serves the City of Charlottesville and the Counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Nelson, and Orange. If you are outside of this region, visit our Statewide SBDC website for the SBDC nearest you. The Central Virginia SBDC is part of the American SBDC network and one of 27 centers across Virginia.
Funded by the Small Business Administration, local municipalities and community partners, our services are free of charge. Our team members are subject matter experts and we have access to even more through our network in topics such as federal government contracting, international business, craft beverage strategies and more. CV SBDC offers confidential business counseling services, assists with feasibility studies and business planning, sponsors seminars and training, and provides information and other services to area small and mid-sized businesses.
The center is hosted by the Community Investment Collaborative. CIC strengthens our communities and contributes to economic development by fueling the success of under-resourced entrepreneurs through education, mentoring, financing, and networking start-up and early-stage businesses in Central Virginia.
