SUMMARY:42nd Annual Labor and Employment Seminar (Charlottesville)
DESCRIPTION:An opportunity for students to network and learn from senior ESG leaders. \nJoin attorneys from Woods Rogers Vandeventer Black for their 2023 Labor & Employment Seminar on Thursday\, October 26 at the Quirk Hotel. Building a better workplace requires endurance and determination. But when you manage people\, it’s easy to get off track. Everyone needs a trainer who can help them keep their eyes on the prize: a workplace that is good for employees and good for business. \n\nREGISTER\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration includes:\n\nFull-day seminar\nContinental breakfast and lunch\nFree parking\nDigital handout\nContinuing education credits\n\nPricing\n\nRegular Pricing: $325/person\nEarly Bird: (through September 10): $295/person\nGroup Pricing (3+): $275/person\nOctober 19 Virtual Program: $295/person\n\n\nTopics\nTraining Day: Legal Updates & Hot Topics\n\n\nThis informative session covers recent legislation\, court cases\, and updates from the “Big 3.” We’ll also cover the new Virginia laws in effect since July 2023. You’ll leave this session informed about current legal issues and better prepared to face upcoming changes. \n\n\n\n\nStarting Block: Hiring the Right Way\n\n\nYour hiring process can either build your team or break your business. Applicants are increasingly vocal about transparency and fairness and the EEOC is taking a special interest in hiring issues. From artificial intelligence to pay equity to ADA claims\, this session will help you evaluate and update your hiring policies and procedures. \n\n\n\n\nHome Straight: Return to Office Issues\n\n\nNot that long ago\, working from home was a rare privilege. Now\, workers are pushing back on the mildest requests to return one or two days a week or leaving over a call to return to the office full time. This session covers the positives and negatives of managing a remote workforce and the pitfalls of a blanket mandate to “return to office.” \n\n\n\n\nJumping Hurdles: DEI After Affirmative Action\n\n\nWhat does the future hold for corporate DEI programs? After the US Supreme Court’s landmark ruling ending affirmative action in university admissions\, public attention quickly turned to the diversity programs many organizations have embraced in recent years. You’ll leave this session knowing how to promote a diverse and inclusive workplace without running afoul of equal protection and non-discrimination laws. \n\n\n\n\nOpen High: Medical Marijuana & Drug Testing\nThe rapid legalization of cannabis in Virginia and other states has resulted in confusion for employers attempting to enforce drug testing policies. Employers are often unsure about when and how they can test employees and whether marijuana use can still be grounds for discipline or dismissal. This session discusses best practices regarding medical marijuana accommodations\, drug testing\, and navigating conflicting federal and state laws. \n\n\n\n\nOpen Q&A\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nFacilitated by \nWood Rogers Vandeventer Black
