SUMMARY:Basics of Financial Literacy for Boards
DESCRIPTION:One of the foremost responsibilities of a nonprofit organization is financial management and oversight. Active oversight is essential to ensuring the organization’s financial sustainability\, as well as proper stewardship of the organization’s assets and resources. This important duty of financial oversight encompasses an array of responsibilities and requires a foundation in financial literacy.\nJoin consultant Elizabeth Turrisi for this interactive workshop to develop a better understanding of financial terminology\, financial statements\, and how financial statements tell a story about an organization. \nThis session is designed for board members who require a basic understanding of finances to inform their strategic thinking. We ask that all groups bring financial statements from their home organizations to use in the activities\, including an income statement\, balance sheet\, and (if available) a statement of cash flow and a statement of functional expense. (This information will not be shared.) \n***This session is not intended to help you build these statements.***

SUMMARY:Contracting: Preparing a Powerful Capabilities Statement
DESCRIPTION:Capabilities Statements are becoming a critical tool for competing in and remaining successful at the very competitive government contracting marketplace.\nThis tool allows vendors to provide company information that is most critical to a particular decision-maker; to state it in a clear\, concise manner; and to reinforce company qualifications for a particular project. \nCapabilities Statements are now required in many government registration processes as a means of providing proof of  “capacity and capability” as well as the ability to be a “responsible and responsive” bidder.  A strong Statement is also a way of opening the door for new opportunities! \nThis intermediate level contracting class will: \n\nprovide you with a template for use in creating your company’s Statement\nwalk you through how and what to include\nprovide examples of a strong statement.\n\nREGISTER\nOnce registered\, you will receive a confirmation email from centeric@clients.virginiasbdc.org\, our automated system. This email will contain the ZOOM LINK to join the workshop.  If you cannot find the email\, please check your spam folder. \n\n\nJoin Lisa Wood\, Director of the Virginia Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC)\, for this informative presentation – a “must” for those who are considering the Federal Government contracting market.  \nPrior becoming Virginia’s PTAC Director\, Lisa served as the Statewide Director with the Connecticut and Ohio PTAC programs and was also Director for the Northwest Commission PTAC in Pennsylvania. Before joining the PTAC community\, Lisa was a Procurement Specialist for Bechtel Plant Machinery\, Inc. in the Greater Pittsburgh Area. In this role\, Wood performed contract administration and negotiation duties. She also recommended bidders\, handled issue inquiries\, negotiated bids\, performed cost and price analysis\, and prepared comprehensive letters to justify recommended contract actions.  Ms. Wood holds an MBA from the University of New Haven and a BSBA through Robert Morris University of Pittsburgh where she is also pursuing her PhD in Instructional Management and Leadership. \nREGISTER
