Before forming her own firm in 1999\, Devyani worked in the tax department of a reputable Charlottesville CPA firm\, preparing individual\, corporate\, and partnership income tax returns. In addition\, Devyani has taught cost\, intermediate\, and tax accounting at several institutions and corporations within the Charlottesville business area. \nEllen Martin from Octavo LLC and Business Advisor\, CV SBDC\, Ellen is a certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor\, Online Advanced. Her background meshes multi-faceted for-profit and not-for-profit business experience. She employs holistic and strategic thinking to advance organizational missions. Ellen brings results-driven experience in myriad facets of business best practices to Octavo. Her work has encompassed the private sector\, higher education\, voluntary sector\, and entrepreneurial pursuits.

The Town has zoning that affects where certain businesses can operate\, but that’s not hard to answer case by case. Market research and surveys show strong support for restaurants\, niche retail like clothing\, personal services\, and health and medical services. All kinds of creative ideas are welcome! \nI already do business in Scottsville. Is this for me? \nMaybe. The program’s main goal is to fill vacant buildings and create jobs. It would be great to expand your home-based business to a storefront and hire more staff. An existing business must expand their physical space\, or grow their services by hiring two or more full-time employees. \nHow quickly do I have to open my business? \nYour business must be open in town by September 30\, 2022. The sooner the better! Summertime tourism is a strong boost in Scottsville. \nWhat kind of data will be collected from my business? \nNot much different from your tax filings\, and the records will remain confidential. For three years\, the Town needs to report to the grant agency about the size of your building\, amount spent on equipment\, and amount of taxes paid.
